Banff, where there are more bikes than residents

When I landed in Vancouver and it was beautiful and blue and not a cloud in the sky, I knew it was a good day. πŸ™‚

The flight from Vancouver to Calgary was absolutely frickin incredible. I flew over the Canadian Rockies. The view I got from the plane was just unparalleled. Consequentially, in the back of my mind I’m thinking, “I have to ride over THAT?!?” Lol πŸ™‚

Apparently I landed in Calgary in the middle of Stampede Week. It is an all-American “rodeo” style event which draws the single largest amount of visitors to Calgary. Even more than any sporting event. Yeah, I was wondering why there were so many people in the airport with cowboy hats. Haha!

I love Canada. I love Canadians. And every time I go to Canada or hang out with Canadians, I am reminded why I love these people and this country so much. Dude, the baggage claim has penguins on it!!! Lol!! Yes Canada, you have won me over with penguins.

Leslie picked me up in Calgary. Thank you Leslie!! You are so awesome!! The drive from Calgary to Banff was incredible. I saw a lot of road touring cyclists along the highway. Panniers and all. Super cool!!

A high-up view of Banff!

Anyhow, here I am in Banff. Keith and Leslie are intending to hold me hostage for the weekend until they both have to work Monday. Lol! πŸ˜€

Banff is really cool. I’m pretty sure there are more bikes here than residents. Apparently they are in their busiest weekend right now, because everyone goes to Banff before/after Stampede Week. It’s nuts, the main strip looks like the “Waikiki” of the Canadian Rockies. There are tourists EVERYWHERE! I’ll take a pic tomorrow. I was too busy looking around today.

Leslie and Keith showed me around town and the surrounding area. I rode a tandem bike for the first time! I can’t believe there are people who do the Tour Divide on a tandem bike. That’s on the same level of crazy/hardcore as the people who have done it on unicycles.

You know what one of my FAVORITE things about Canada is? This right here πŸ˜€

  1. A few years ago, I rode my road bike on a Canadian Rockies tour, flying into Calgary and starting in Banff also. Truly fantastic memories. You are going to rock the CDT. Love Leslie and Keith and am a bit jealous of your time with them, but mine is coming πŸ™‚
